Step By Step

Your appointment, step by step

Reception team member at the front desk of Penrith Podiatry Foot and Ankle Clinic on High Street, Penrith
You'll be greeted at reception when you arrive at our High Street clinic.
01

We listen first

We start by understanding your symptoms, how they affect you, your activity and footwear, and anything you've already tried.

02

A hands-on assessment

We examine the foot and ankle - joints, soft tissue, strength, skin and nails - to localise exactly where the problem is.

03

How you move

We assess your biomechanics and gait to understand the load and mechanics driving the problem, not just the sore spot.

04

Diagnostics if needed

Where it helps confirm the diagnosis, we use in-clinic diagnostic ultrasound - no separate appointment or referral.

05

Your diagnosis & plan

You'll get a clear explanation of what's going on and a staged, realistic treatment plan you understand.

06

Next steps

We book any follow-up, start treatment where appropriate, and coordinate imaging or onward referral if it's needed.

Come Prepared

What to bring

A few things help us assess you thoroughly and get the most from your visit. Don't worry if you can't find everything - just bring what you can.

  • Any GP or specialist referral (not required to book, but bring it if you have one)
  • Your private health fund card, or Medicare / EPC care plan details
  • The shoes you wear most often, and any orthotics you currently use
  • A list of your current medications and relevant medical history
  • Any previous scans, X-rays or reports relating to your feet or ankles

Common Questions

First-visit FAQs

How long will my first appointment take?

Allow around 30 to 45 minutes for an initial assessment, and a little longer for complex or long-standing problems. We'd rather be thorough than rush - getting the diagnosis right the first time saves time overall.

Will I be treated on the first visit?

Often, yes. Where it's appropriate we'll begin treatment at the first appointment. For some conditions the first visit is about accurate diagnosis and planning, with treatment starting once the plan is set.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Just bring the items on our list and wear or bring the footwear you use most. If your problem relates to a particular activity - like running - it can help to bring those shoes too.

Can I bring someone with me?

Absolutely. You're welcome to bring a family member or carer, and we encourage it for children's appointments or if it helps you feel comfortable and remember the plan.
