Overview

Surgery as a Considered Decision

Surgery is the right answer for some foot and ankle problems and the wrong one for others. A surgical consultation exists to work out which - not to push an operation, but to assess your problem honestly and lay out whether surgery genuinely offers you the best outcome.

Consultations are overseen by Dr Ozan Amir, a Registered Specialist Podiatric Surgeon (Fellow of the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons). If surgery isn't warranted, we'll say so and steer you to conservative care; if it is, you'll get a clear explanation of the procedure, recovery and expectations.

Common Questions

Surgical Consultations FAQs

The questions patients ask us most about surgical consultations.

Do I need a referral for a surgical consultation?

A referral isn't essential to be seen, but if you've been referred or have imaging and reports, bring them - they help make the consultation as useful as possible. We'll advise on anything else needed for planning.

Will you recommend surgery?

Only if it genuinely offers you the best outcome. Many problems are better managed conservatively, and we'll tell you honestly when that's the case. The consultation is about the right decision, not a default to operate.

Who performs the surgery?

Surgical care is led by Dr Ozan Amir, a Registered Specialist Podiatric Surgeon and Fellow of the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons. Your consultation is overseen by this specialist expertise.

What conditions might need surgery?

Bunions, hammer toes, some arthritic joints, certain tendon problems and recurrent nail issues are examples. A consultation determines whether your specific problem is one where surgery helps.
