Overview

When to Have Your Child's Feet Checked

Many childhood foot differences are a normal part of development and settle on their own. Others benefit from early guidance. Because it's hard for parents to know which is which, a proper assessment takes the worry out of it.

We assess gently and at the child's pace, explain what's normal, and only recommend treatment when it genuinely helps - never intervention for its own sake.

Common Questions

Children's Podiatry FAQs

The questions patients ask us most about children's podiatry.

At what age can my child see a podiatrist?

At any age. We see toddlers just starting to walk through to teenagers. If you have a concern about your child's feet or walking, it's reasonable to have it checked.

My child's feet look flat - is that a problem?

Flat feet are common and often normal in children, as the arch develops over years. It's usually only a concern if there's pain, fatigue, or it's affecting activity - which is exactly what an assessment clarifies.

Does my child need orthotics?

Not usually. Many children need nothing more than reassurance and monitoring. Where orthoses or footwear changes genuinely help - for example with pain or a specific mechanical issue - we'll explain why before recommending them.

What is Sever's disease?

It's a common, self-limiting cause of heel pain in active, growing children, related to the heel's growth plate. It's manageable with simple measures, and we'll guide you through settling it and keeping your child active.
