Orthoses That Are Actually Prescribed
A custom orthosis is a medical device, not a generic arch support. Done properly, it redistributes load away from the painful structure and helps control the foot mechanics contributing to your problem - which is why prescription starts with a thorough assessment, not a foot scan alone.
We prescribe orthoses only when they'll genuinely help, design them around your diagnosis and your footwear, and review and fine-tune them so they do their job comfortably.

When Orthotic Therapy Helps
Orthoses are often part of the plan for:
Heel & arch pain
plantar fasciitis and load-related heel pain
Flat feet & PTTD
supporting a collapsing arch and offloading the tendon
Forefoot overload
metatarsalgia and plantar plate problems needing offloading
Arthritic & painful joints
reducing load through painful or stiff joints
What to expect.

Orthotic Therapy FAQs
The questions patients ask us most about orthotic therapy.
How are custom orthotics different from shop inserts?
Off-the-shelf inserts offer generic cushioning. Custom orthoses are prescribed from an assessment of your specific mechanics and diagnosis, and are designed to offload a particular structure - which is why they can help problems that generic supports don't.
Will I have to wear them forever?
Not necessarily. Sometimes orthoses are a longer-term support; other times they're used while the underlying problem settles and strength rebuilds. We'll be clear about the role they play in your case.
Will they fit in my shoes?
We design orthoses with your footwear in mind and advise on suitable shoes. Different devices suit different shoes, and we'll make sure the prescription is practical for your daily life and activity.
How long do they take to make?
Manufacturing typically takes a couple of weeks after casting. We'll give you a clear timeframe at your appointment and fit them once they're ready.
Support and offloading that's built for you
If your pain is being driven by foot mechanics, prescription orthoses can be a turning point. Book a biomechanical assessment and we'll tell you honestly whether they'll help - serving Penrith and Western Sydney.
