Plantar Warts (Verruca Pedis)

Plantar Warts (Verruca Pedis)

Verrucae pedis (plantar warts) are lesions that arise on the bottom of the foot in both children and adults. They are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). The virus is believed to be carried and transmitted to others through tiny cuts and breaks in the skin. Walking barefoot in public toilets, locker rooms, gym showers and swimming in public swimming pools are usually the more common reasons people contract the virus.

They are quite painful especially when walking if they are on a pressure point of the foot. Plantar warts have a cauliflower appearance with tiny pigments throughout.

At Penrith Podiatry we can help:

  • Debridement of the wart and treatment using one of many techniques
  • Advice to prevent reoccurrence
